Like many of us (at least at some point), I had no clue what I wanted to do in life. Luckily, while trying out loads of different extra-curricular activities in my university years, I joined this one youth-run organisation where I met extremely inspiring people and learnt a lot about myself. I challenged myself to step outside of my comfort zone throughout various leadership roles that made me realise how vital it is for me to see the positive impact through personal development of others. I think the biggest challenge I faced was then I found myself having a responsibility to lead a team of 15 during my time as a head of sales and marketing. Leading and motivating a team of student-volunteers who had a lot of other commitments with the focus of achieving the sales targets set was not an easy task. I decided to switch the team’s focus from meeting the sales targets to their own personal development. I worked out what skills my team wanted to develop throughout the year and made sure the tasks they were given helped them improve those skills. At the end of the year I ended up having the most engaged team with doubled sales targets. But most importantly, I realised that seeing the positive impact I’m making on others (and society as a whole) was something that motivated me to get out of bed every day. I haven’t felt like that in a while now. Until me and M came up with Cheery. And I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to work on something that I’m even more passionate about! Great things are happening, stay tuned for more!!
